Description:

Balmus is a +1 Flaming Adamantine Bastard Sword.
Hardness: 22, Hit Points: 20

A bastard sword is about 4 feet in length, making it too large to use in one hand without special training; thus, it is an exotic weapon. A character can use a bastard sword two-handed as a martial weapon.

Upon command, (a standard action,) a flaming weapon is sheathed in fire that deals an extra 1d6 points of fire damage on a successful hit. The fire does not harm the wielder. The effect remains until another command is given.

Adamantine has the natural ability to bypass object hardness. As such, Balmus ignores object hardness less than 20.

The blade is glossy black, with the sheen of obsidian. The hilt is a shade of charcoal and is of metallic composition, with darkened leather wrapped around the grip. Inlaid in the hilt and handle are a pair of coiling golden serpents.

Bio:

Balmus is a blade of largely unknown origin. It was brought into the modern world when Clare Trannyth, a member of The Black Dragon Company, liberated it from the tomb of her ancestor. Upon the Black Dragon Company’s downfall, the blade found a new owner in Richard J. Buckles. It is unknown how, but 411 years later, the blade made its way into Clare’s tomb, suggesting some kind of familial tie.
Astraea Allbright was the blade’s last owner, after pilfering it from Clare’s casket. She used it until she eventually met her demise in bringing an offshoot world to a state of stability.
